Peaty and Hans in Iceland Traverse

Teaming up with the crew from Icebike Adventures , Hans Rey and Steve Peat set about a North to South Iceland Traverse earlier this year. Unlike most travellers who tend to do some helicopter flights, hiking and 4X4 adventuring – Peaty and Hans did their Iceland Traverse entirely by mountain bike.

Iceland Traverse

The scenery is Iceland really is epic – and has an incredible and unique look. Almost like the saturation has been turned up on your eyes.

They were joined by local rider Runar Omarsson, along with the Icebike Adventure crew – who helped plan out the route that took in incredible terrain on the notoriously volcanic island of Iceland. When they did their Iceland Traverse by bike in August, Iceland is effectively light for 24hours as the sun only sets for a few hours. This makes the darker hours a lingering twilight.

Fancy staying here? There are plenty of traditional Icelandic Turf Huts you can stay in if you attempt your own Icelandic Traverse

With a mixture of camping, traditional Icelandic Turf Huts and mountain bothy’s, Hans and Peaty got to see Iceland in a way many only dream of. Carrying out their Iceland Traverse by bike, they got to take in the staggering scenery that most tourists won’t ever get to see. If you’ve not been to Iceland, you really need to put it in your top five places to visit – it’s absolutely breathtaking.

Doesn’t get much better than this, does it?

The tour company Icebike offer various packages from 3 day short trips to full on 7 day mountain bike epics. Expensive? Yes – but very exclusive and in one of the most incredible places on earth. Money can’t buy those kinds of memories.

Hans and Peaty’s Iceland Traverse started at the Northern town of Dettifoss, and finished in the South at Skogafoss – home of the infamous Skogafoss waterfall. Check out the incredible video below…
