Halo BDS: Round 2, Moelfre – Photo Essay

April 13th, 2011

The second round of the 2011 BDS series held at the famous Moelfre track in North Wales, saw another great weekend of racing at what has grown to be one of the worlds most premiere domestic race series – the Halo BDS Series. With baking sunshine, dust and with a massive Elite turnout, the second round of the BDS was a week end to remember not to mention remembering your sun screen next time too! Gracia was rumored to be attending, but a no show from the flamboyant Frenchman didn’t hold the racing back with a field of some of the worlds fastest racers on the Welsh hillside and all competing for glory and a shot at a podium finish. Factory Jackson snappers Callum Biggin and Sam Davies were there to capture the action….

Callum TGee Atherton (2:23.154) is virtually a local here, taking the win in his first race in 2011 and I’m more than certain this merely a warm up for the coming months.

Sam Davies – The new Commencal V3 looks like a serious bike that will no doubt be a familiar sight at the races this year. The first batch of production frames will be hitting stores next month, so if you fancy one – go hassle your local Commencal dealer!

Callum TCheck the focus and the neck brace – wether this a sponsorship thing or not is neither here no there and it’s great to see another high ranking athlete adopt the neck brace.

Callum T – Second BDS and a second podium! Peaty’s (2:23.664) seasons got off to the right start and it seems the curse of the rainbow stripes are well and truly behind him.

Callum TSanta Cruz sandwich! Scott Mears, Peaty and Bryceland train it down down the Moelfre track – check the blue sky!

Callum T – The master and the former apprentice – Peaty and Beaumont.

Callum T – The eyes have it! Brendan Fairclough (2:25.692) made up for his disappointing finish at the first round to get the third spot on a stacked podium of world cup hitters. Something tells me Brendan is just warming up for what’s coming! Braaaaap!

Sam Davies – The brightest bike on the hill? Definitely one of the fastest and most sought after – the Specialized Demo.

Callum T – BRENDOG!

Sam Davies – Flat Out, Foot Out!

Sam Davies – Joe Smith (2:26.431) rounded off the podium with a solid 5th and an excellent start to the season – looks like the Nukeproof Scalp is agreeing with him it certainly look the part!

Callum T – Round one winner, Marc Beaumont (2:27.053) just missed out on a podium finish this time in 6th.

Sam Davies – You know the weathers good when riders start using Iridium lens’s in their goggles!

Callum T – Josh Bryceland (2:27.768) is steam rolling so far this season, but it’s still early days. Everyone knows he’s got the skills and ability to be one of the best in the world and 2011 could be the first year he gets on that illusive world cup podium.

Callum T – Josh rocking the new Fox Head gear in the sun! Almost a catalogue shot?

Callum T – ‘Mr Gas to Flat’, Adam Brayton (2:28.161) was hoping for a top 5 this week end, but 8th is far from shabby, especially when you look who sharing the top 10! Virtually a who’s who of world cup racing!

Callum T – One of the coolest things was seeing Dan Atherton (2:28.343) back on his downhill bike and  looking bloody fast in the process! First DH race back after breaking his neck and he puts a top ten in? Dan’s focus is DH now and it looks to me like he’s not messing around either.

Callum T – Following his brother!

Callum T – Ben Cathro (2:28.343) finished on exactly the same time as Dan Atherton sharing 9th place. The more I look at the new proto 322 the more I like it!

Callum T – Jack Reading’s (2:28.741) results just keep getting better and better and rounding of a pretty solid top ten is another great result that will help get his season off in the right direction.

Callum T – Sam Dale (2:29.329) rocking the swish new Poc gear. Sam’s on it this year and were yet to see what the ‘mac’ lad has in store for us in 2011.

Callum T – Tom Braithwaite (2:29.802) looking pinned and taking a solid 15th to match his plate and a great result for the Hope Technology rider! New Fox V3 lid is looking sharp too!

Callum T – Pinned Irishman and all round good guy, Daniel Wolfe (2:30.447) storming in the top 20!

Callum T – Scott Mears (2:30.458) looking pinned and ‘factory’ as usual, rounding off the top 20 in the Elite field.

Callum T – Rich Thomas (2:31.208) ripping it up on the Nukeproof Scalp and coming in 25th!

Callum T – Dan Stanbridge (2:31.561) on the proto Norco – look at the focus!

Sam Davies – Neil Donoghue (2:32.203) has been away from the race scene for a while now and although he insists this isn’t a come back, 28th in Elite’s after a good hiatus from the race scene, bares testament that the speed is still there.

Callum T – Alex Bond (2:32.720) had a phenomenal start to the season, and although 29th probably wasn’t what he was looking for, it’s not shabby by anyone’s standards – the level of racing in the UK is crazy right now and that’s why it’s the number one racing country in the world and races like the BDS will only fuel the UK’s domination over the next few years!

Callum T – Emmeline Ragot (2:45.190) made the trip over from the continent to take the top spot in the women’s DH.

Callum T – Jess Stone (2:51.622) has had a great start to the year and one to watch at the world cups this year!

Sam Davies – Jess pinned and ripping up the dusty trails under the April sunshine – epic!

Callum T – Manon Carpenter (2:51.336) is on it this year and a great catch for the Madison/ Saracen Team.

Callum T – Katy Curd (2:55.985) might see her self as a 4X racer these days, but she doesn’t hang about on the big bike either, 5th place at Moelfe and a solid start to the season, especially after her 4X National win last week end.

Callum T – No words needed!
