Following suit from the Santa Cruz Bronson and 5010 relaunch, it’s nice to see Juliana Bikes relaunch Roubion and Furtado platforms with similar refinements to geometry and suspension.
The new frames are based around the third generation of the VPP linkage system developed by Santa Cruz and also see revised geometry and improved stand over heights.
Roubion
The Juliana Bikes Roubion is the 150mm travel bike ridden by the Juliana-SRAM Pro team in the Enduro World Series, and for 2016 sees a few refinements that improve on it’s already popular appeal.
The head angle is a degree slacker at 66 degrees which adds all important stability at speed and on the steep stuff, which combined with the new longer top tube and shorter stems improves handling in all situations. The seat angle is also a little different – steeper – which helps aid climbing. Every little helps!
The new Roubion retains the VPP system, but uses an entirely new set of links. The lower link now hides completely out of the way, and the upper mounts directly to the top tube to enhance stiffness and bearing life. As a result of the new links, the shock rate is now softer at the top end, which makes for a smoother ride over small bumps.
The end result is a more progressive feeling rear end which means the bike sits up better in the mid stroke – helping the bike regain composure in the rough stuff.
Furtado
Focussed more on back country riding than flat out riding through the rough stuff, the stunning looking Furtado has had a few refinements like the bigger Roubion – which will make it a highly sought after bike and very applicable to UK riders.
The VPP pivot has been redesigned and tucked up out of harms way, which also improves the suspension feel by making it more supple initially with a more progressive feel throughout the stroke. Another upside to the design is that there is increased stand over height now – and a longer top tube. Wheel travel increases 5mm to 130mm and the seat angle is steepened slightly too, along with the shortening of chain stays to make handling snappy and improve the climbing position.
Both the Roubion and the Furtado are available in their single colours – Stonewashed and Spearmint respectively, but in both the cheaper C model, and the premium CC carbon.
Pricing for the Roubion varies from £3099- £3999 for the C model, and £4999- £5699 for the CC model. The Furtado ranges from £3099- £3999 for the C model, and £4999- £5999 for the CC model. Both frames are available at £2799 from
