Video | Greg Minnaar – Putting it Together

September 9th, 2015

One of the most consistent downhill racers of all time

Without a doubt, Greg Minnaar is one of the most consistent riders on the planet, and has been for a good 15 years.

Ask any of the top riders who will be a podium threat at any major race and Minnaar’s name will always be right up there. He just doesn’t seem to have a weakness on any sort of track or conditions. Be it wet, dry, steep, rough or physical, nothing phases Minnaar once he’s racked up in the start gate and ready to race.

Check out this awesome video presented by Shimano which goes behind the scenes to see how the cool headed South African prepares for the toughest race of the year, where he rode to a silver medal behind Frenchman Loic Bruni in the 2015 World Championships in Andorra.

It’s crazy to think that Greg won his first World Championship title aged just 19, way back in 2003 at Lugano, Switzerland. 12 years later and he’s still just as big a threat, despite the new wave of amazing younger riders pushing their way to the top. His cool head, methodical approach to racing and ultimate skill set on the bike are still a force to be reckoned with.

Since his first World Champs, Greg’s picked up two more World Champ titles – 2012 at Leogang in Austria and then in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in 2013. This was particularly special as not only was it his home country, but it is in fact Greg’s home town too! A once in a life time race to win – and his cool-headed approach kept it together, allowing him to secure the win.

Check out Greg’s trademark smooth and calculated style in both his 2012 and 2013 World Championship race runs below…
