Anti-creak compound
Designed to add friction between smooth clamping surfaces and accordingly lower the clamping torque, Muc-Off’s Carbon Gripper assembly paste comes in a 2.65fluid oz tube, and like most things from the brand is bright pink.

Carbon Gripper – every decent tool kit should have some
Carbon fibre can be damaged if you ignore the recommended torque settings, but sometimes it can be tempting to over tighten as creaking can develop from minute movements of components that are under leverage. This tends to occur in load-bearing places, like handlebar clamps or around suspension pivots.
Using a carbon assembly paste can resolve this issue, as floating particles create friction and help stop any movement between components. It doesn’t have to be used exclusively on carbon – it can also be used with carbon to aluminium interfaces to good effect.

As with all Muc-Off products, the paste is bright pink – and smells good enough to eat. But you wouldn’t want to do that.
We tested the pink paste out on the suspension pivot nuts of a Mondraker Carbon Foxy XR – which can be susceptible to creaking if ridden in repeatedly wet and/or dry conditions. The creaking can emerge from the nut, which sits in a moulded hole – dirt and grime can get in there which doesn’t help, but it’s that minute movement that can lead to creaking. Using the Muc-Off Carbon Gripper has eliminated this, so far to date – despite repeated jet washes and a fair amount of dry conditions to date.

We say
Carbon assembly compound is an essential addition to any tool kit, and Muc-Off have nailed it with the Carbon Gripper assembly paste. It’s useful stuff and clears up any little creaks your steed can develop.
