Knog Oi – the ultra stylish bike bell with a happy ping!

Ok, so the bell isn’t the sort of thing that mountain bikers generally use – but if you commute to work, ride tow paths or just want to wind your mates up out on the trails they are perfect.

And the Knog Oi has to be the coolest bell on the planet!

Knog Oi Bike Bell

The simple Knog Oi uses a curved plate suspended on springs to emit a friendly chime.

The Details

Unlike traditional bells and the simple ‘ping’ bells included with new bikes, the Knog Oi is neat, stylish and has a simple design that delivers a really friendly tone.

Available in two sizes to fit either 22.2mm or 23.8 – 31.8mm bars, the Knog Oi can fit near your grips, or closer to the stem. Roadies will no doubt want the bigger bell by the stem, whereas mountain bikes can run the smaller bell next to the grip.

The Knog Oi bell is a simple clamp design; is secured by an included 3mm Allen key and is available in Black, Silver, Copper and Brass colours. If you went for the black model no one would ever know it’s on your bike!

The larger option weighs 23grams, and the smaller one a scant 18grams.

Out on the Trail

I installed the Knog Oi bell by my left grip, with the sprung lever at the bottom and out of the way. This is very easy top operate without moving a hand from the bars, and doesn’t interfere with my Rockshox Reverb button.

The chime from the Knog Oi is definitely more friendly that the typical ‘ping’ type bells that come supplied with bikes, and looks much neater when fitted.

On a couple of off-road rides, I noticed my thumb would hit the sprung lever – and actually knocked it out of alignment. It simply clicked back in to place – but since these photos were taken I now run the Knog Oi with the lever facing forwards and use my fore finger instead.

Knog Oi Bike Bell

Since this photo was taken, I’ve flipped the Knog Oi round so the lever faces forwards. It’s almost non-existent on the bike – but is there if I need it.

Although a bell isn’t the sort of thing most my off road mates use, I commute on the same bike I take off road and like to be prepared. The Knog Oi is a great little addition that I forget is there.

It’s a polite way of reminding those five-abreast, totally unaware families that that towpaths are for sharing – and it doesn’t terrify little old ladies.

It does wind your mates up off road though, if they’re holding you up on the single track…

We say

The Knog Oi is a simple little bell for your bike that is discreet and does the job well.

No need to be a bell end and shout; skid or change gears to let people know you’re coming – just get one of these. Job done.
