The Cycle Show 2016 – part 1 of our top spots!

The National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham is home to the Cycle Show 2016 this week, which means some of the nicest bits of MTB kit are on display for you to get all touchy and feely with!

Here’s some of the amazing kit we spotted on our wonder round the show…

Tahnee Seagrave’s Custom Painted Transition

Everyone that walked past the Transition stand double took when they saw this stunning World Champs race bike. Custom painted by Made Rad By Tony this bike is by far the most incredible looking thing at The Cycle Show 2016. Cycle Show 2016

DMR’s new V-Twin clipless pedal

Longterm producer of flat pedals DMR has finally bitten the bullet and produced this excellent looking clipless pedal. Based around a sprung central cleat retention system that accepts Shimano SPD cleats, the V-Twin has a supportive outer cage with an adjustable contact via shims.Cycle Show 2016

DMR Bikes front man Olly Wilkins told us that despite being a flat pedal die-hard rider, he was intrigued by the clipless thing – though would probably stick with what he knows best. Now he’s also a professional Freeracer for German brand Focus bikes, we reckon it’s a matter of time before he sells out and clips in. Watch this space!

Magura Carbon Trail brakes

It’s great to see iconic German brake brand Magura back on top again producing some lovely kit – like these full carbon fibre lever trail brakes. The lever is a flip flop design; and the pads have magnets on the back to avoid them rattling when they are well worn in.Cycle Show 2016

Interestingly the front caliper is a 4 pot unit with four individual pads for heat dissipation, and the rear has two larger pistons. Pricing is approx £460 for a full set. We have a test set on the way.

Magura interchangeable piston covers

Everyone likes a bit of colour co-ordination, and Magura offer lots of aftermarket piston covers to match the brakes up to your steed.

We love this!

Danny Hart’s World Championship winning bike

Cycle Show 2016

Gotta love the ‘do not touch’ sign!

The fastest non-electric bike at the show was Danny Harts custom painted Mondraker Bikes Summum. This thing of beauty was drawing quite a crowd – and by far one of the most talked about things at the Cycle Show 2016.

Crank Brothers pre-production multi tool

Crank Brothers Brand Manager Hannah Wilson excitedly showed us a brand new tool coming from Crank Brothers.

Essentially it’s a multi-tool with a magnetic sheath to store it in, that holds the chain tool and also has a bottle opener built in. When you pop a bottle cap off, the magnet in the sheath stops the cap firing off. Perfect for being litter free when enjoying some trail ales! We have a production unit on order, so will fill you in on all the details soon! Cycle Show 2016

Steve Peat’s new Deedar valve caps

Coming soon from the big man are these ace little rubber push-on valve caps to protect the delicate valves from mud etc. They work on Presta and Schrader valves – meaning you can use them on your shock too – and are a nice little hop up. We spotted them on Peaty’s Santa Cruz road bike, along side the new Crud Products road mud guards.

Trek Remedy 2017 model

We like the simplicity of Trek bikes, and the new Trek Remedy is one of the nicest looking whips around. The racing red finish is stunning in the flesh.Cycle Show 2016

Knog Lights

It’s that time of year when the lights are coming out – and Knog had the biggest selection on sight. They make everything from high performance front lights, to the bare minimum back up lights that charge via USB. They also had the coolest bike bell we’ve seen – we pinched one off the stand so will get testing tomorrow and report back!

Magura One Finger after market levers

With ultra powerful brakes, you don’t need long brake levers – so Magura are offering trick one finger levers as a hop up. Super cool!

Cannondale Bad Habit

We never got to ride last year’s Bad Habit – as some dodgy courier nicked the bike and it ended up on the Isle of Wight! So we paid Cannondale a visit and lined up a 2017 model for review. Test coming soon!

Cycle Show 2016Yeti Arc retro build

We don’t even need to say anything. This thing is stunning.

Full bike check coming soon!

Cycle Show 2016Mondraker Dune R – murdered out

When most brands are going big on colour, it’s nice to see a few blacked out bikes floating around. And this Mondraker Dune does it for us.

It really couldn’t be much blacker – probably the stealthiest bike at the Cycle Show 2016.

Ergon GD1 Factory Grips

These new grips from Ergon are available in two sizes – regular and slim, have a taper design and are made from a totally unique rubber design that is manufactured exclusively in Germany.

The grips taper from the thumb/forefinger end to the out side – offering more material for padding on the heel of your hand. The regular grips taper from 30-32mm thick, and the thin grips 29-30.5mm. We have some on the way for review!

We’ll be posting more pics from the Cycle Show 2016 tomorrow – be sure to check back to see what weird and wonderful stuff we spotted!
