Three Park Tools for the basic fettler or trail side bodger…
A decent multitool is your best friend when things go south out on the trail – and it’s important to have a decent quality one. The classic Park Tools workshop spec tools are notorious for being great quality and having decent hardened steel bits that keep shape for years, so we checked out the new trail tool range.
Not everyone needs the full on McGuyver style tool with everything on, so we’ve checked out three different sizes from the excellent Park Tools multi tool range – which are suitable for jobs as simple as straightening your bars to building a bike from the ground up…

The Park Tools MT-10 is a very compact tool, with the bare minimums on there.
It features 3, 4, 5 and 8mm Allen keys, a T25 Torx driver and a combo cross/flat head screw driver tip.
It’s size fits in any pocket, and it has a handy key ring holder on it. Simple.
The only niggle with this tool, is the high quality heavy weight 76gram build – a tool of this size could do with being a little lighter to benefit from it’s size. It also lacks a 6mm key.

The Park Tools MT-30 is quite a bit bigger than the pocket sized MT10, and features 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm Allen keys. It also has a T25 and T30 Torx driver; 8 and 15mm box wrenches. A combo cross/straight tip screw driver and a key ring holder make the 153gram tool a trial side heavy hitter. The only thing this tool needs is a chaintool – but if tht’s on your essentials list – check out the full loaded MT40…

The MT-40 is the fully loaded Park Tools multitool, with enough tools to build a bike from the ground up. It’s the tool you want for long rides as it’ll help you get out of pretty much any trail side nightmare.
2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm Allen Keys are joined with T25 and T30 multi tools and the same combo/cross screwdriver tip. There’s also a chain tool, which is solid and works really well – although we would prefer the second set of jaws for removing stiff links.
Usefully, there is a CO2 cartridge inflator adaptor on the tool – nice touch!
