Keep your bike looking pristine with Invisiframe Bike Protection

Invisiframe is the brainchild of Lee Regan, a passionate mountain biker who wanted a reliable way to protect his own pride and joy from trail damage and general wear and tear.

Having good taste in bikes, Lee was also fed up with bikes prematurely ageing and losing their resale value – so he painstakingly cut his own protection kit from automotive grade vinyl. The rest as they say, is history!

Invisiframe Bike Protection

Invisiframe Bike Protection is available to suit the leading models in the most popular brands out there – and is size specific to your frame. Check out the website for full listings on the frame kits available.

The Detail

Invisiframe now offer a myriad of bespoke kits to fit most popular and leading frames – and also generic frame kits that can be trimmed to suit. If on the off chance he hasn’t yet designed a kit for your specific bike, you can give him your frame and he’ll make one for it (for an extra cost). Cool eh?

Additionally, Lee can also provide protection and decals for numerous bike parts such as crank arms, forks, shocks and wheels.

The Crafty is set for 27.5+ wheels, but with long 440mm chain stays and some shock modifications – we reckon it might be fun with 29in wheels too. More on our frankenbike soon! Photo | Rich Parkes

Installation

At Factory Jackson, we recently took delivery of a new Mondraker Crafty R+ long termer – mainly to get a handle on how plus-sized tyres feel. But also with the intention of frankensteining it a touch – watch this space.

Invisiframe Bike Protection

With a brand new, box fresh bike it’s all too easy to go for a quick blast – but really you should consider an Invisiframe Bike Protection kit. Your bike will stay dramatically newer for longer. That’s got to be worth the money, right? Photo | Rich Parkes

Due to the huge amount of fettling and subsequent racing the Crafty is likely to see this year, wrapping it in some form of protective film was an unquestionable no-brainer – cue Lee and Invisiframe.
Lee kindly posted out our bike specific kit for the Crafty after we’d politely declined his offer to fit it for us – we wanted to give you the low down on how easy (or hard) it was to install. And being ham-fisted and slightly impatient – I’m the perfect person to try it out.

We should probably give a massive shout out to the boys at Slam69 in Gloucester for allowing me the use of their workshop and generally putting up with the many expletives – sorry lads.

Invisiframe Bike Protection

When Adam started fitting the Invisiframe Bike Protection kit, he had a full head of hair and was clean shaven..! Lee at Invisiframe can fit the kits for you to save you time – definitely worth considering! Photo | Rich Parkes

The kits arrive in a tough poster-style tube to keep the contents un-creased and safe in Mr Posties possession, and contain all the instructions required to install your vinyl pack. In essence, you need some water with a bit of fairy liquid or preferably baby shampoo added (exact amounts in instructions) in a spray bottle and the blue squeegee provided.

Once you’ve thoroughly cleaned the frame and selected your start point, we’d recommend starting with a smaller piece and working up in size, you simply remove the shape, spray the sticky side comprehensively as well as the area of the frame you’re going to apply it to, and slide the shaped vinyl into place. Once happy with its final location, you squeegee the water from inside to edge using the provided tool.

Something to note is that it helps to have sprayed your fingers first too – lesson learned!

Taking your time is key when fitting an Invisiframe Bike Protection kit. Follow the instructions and think about what you’re doing – and the finish will be brilliant. Photo | Rich Parkes

As you work your way around the frame, there’s likely to be the inevitable mishap where you apply a piece the wrong way around or unsymmetrically, in our case the entire down tube section! This is where the 3M vinyl is superb – as long as you gently remove the shape, being careful not to stretch it, you can simply re-spray the sticky side and the frame, adjust and re-fit, so simple.
The accuracy with which Lee has designed these kits is truly astonishing, everything marries up perfectly with their corresponding bolt holes and angles.

Admittedly there were a few stressful moments and it did take me a shed load longer than the hour and a bit it takes Lee, but then Lee is a master of his trade and I have two left hands, so 4 hours isn’t bad all considered!

Check out the video below to see an Invisiframe Bike Protection kit being installed – it looks easy when you watch someone else do it!

Invisiframe Bike Protection

With the Invisiframe kit fitted, you can barely see it – but your paint finish will thank you for it. We hear Lee ran out of talent at Bike Park Wales and broke his collarbone recently – so we’re sure you’ll all join us in wishing him a speedy recovery. Perhaps you should’ve been wearing some of your own protective vinyl Lee, we’ll leave that one right there! Photo | Rich Parkes

We Say

A few hours to fit a fully protective and custom shaped protective shield to your pride and joy really isn’t that bad, and with prices starting from around £65, we think it’s a bloody bargain too.
For more information on available kits and custom decals, head over to Invisiframe and give Lee a shout.
