Kinesis Sync Titanium 27.5+ spotted at Mayhem
The new plus size is a big talking point at the moment, and we spotted several of the new midi-size bikes at Mountain Mayhem over the weekend – including this awesome looking Titanium framed Maxlight Sync from UK designers Kinesis.
In case you don’t know, the basic facts surrounding 27.5 Plus size bikes are:
- 27.5+ uses tyre sizes from 2.8in – 3.0
- A 27.5+ 2.8in tyre offers the same external wheel size as that of a 29in wheel with a 2.3in tyre
- 27.5+ wheels are stronger and lighter than 29in wheels
- 27.5+ wheels are used in 29in frames that have enough clearance, or specially designed frames – not in 27.5in frames
- 27.5+ uses wide rims – the highly sough after WTB Scraper is 45mm wide
- The OEM tyre of choice – the WTB Trailblazer tyre is 2.8in, weighs just 980grams and is incredibly fast rolling thanks to the central tread strip
- By running low pressures, vast amounts of grip and comfort can be achieved
- 45mm wide rims offer excellent tyre support
SRAM recently launched the new Boost standard, which is a wider 148mm spaced rear end, and a 110mm spaced fork – specifically for this new size – but not every one is jumping straight for it. Although designed for 29in wheels, there is enough clearance on the Sync frame to accept a plus size wheel – and you have the benefit of running regular 29in wheels – giving a light weight trail frame, and a more capable fat-tyred offering for different riding styles.
The chaps from Upgrade had the Kinesis Sync Titanium dripping with product they also distribute – meaning you could spec this whole bike straight from your local bike dealer with an Upgrade Bikes account – bar the stem, headset, rims, tyres, mech and shifter.
