SRAM launch new Guide Ultimate brakes

March 31st, 2015

By Andrew Dodd in Tech

We’ve been big fans of the Guide brake since it’s launch in 2014,  and have been running two sets with zero problems, not including brake pad swaps and a replacement hose on one brake from crash damage. We’ve not had to go near them with a bleeding kit either, which is a huge bonus seeings as the predecessor – the Avid Elixir – was prone to ingesting air via the Taperbore system.

SRAM Guide 1

A 2014 SRAM Guide RSC brake – still being used with no issues to date

Brand new for 2015, is the new Guide Ultimate, which heads the range up as the all-singing and dancing model.

It uses a 4-piston S4 caliper; Swinglink lever cam and carbon lever blade and weighs just 360grams. There are new features for better heat dissipation and management, which help offer more consistent braking in a variety of conditions.

The new caliper incorporates a redesigned seal and aluminium piston interface for ease of set up, and improved consistency – and the new Bleeding Edge system simplifies the older time-consuming and somewhat messy bleeding method.
