Shane McConkey: Two Years On.

March 28th, 2011

Shane in his element.

This weekend marked the two year anniversary of Freeski pioneer Shane Mconkey’s passing  (March 26th 2009)

Shane passed away after executing a ski base jump whilst filming for Matchstick Productions movie ‘In Deep’, as an experienced ski base jumper Shane had executed his charactaristic double back flip many times before, but this time was different as Shane struggled to release his ski’s and when they were finally released, it was too late.

You could compare Shane to any of Freeride mountain biking’s true pioneer’s such as Wade Simmons, Brett Tippie, etc.. freeriding in both skiing and biking share the same ideological attractions, they allow us to explore and push the boundries, but most of all they allow us to have fun, and it’s thanks to people like Shane and Wade, Tippie, etc.. that we have the tools and technology to enjoy ourselves in the outdoors, take a few moments the next time your out on the trails or throwing threes off soft pillow lines and think about the pioneers of our sport!

So here’s too you Shane! (raising a glass of JD in the air!)

Please watch the video below which is Shane Mcconkey’s tribute section compiled by MSP and portrayed in their 2010 film ‘In Deep’
